“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.” Henry Ford
Challenges are inevitable, but letting them hold you back is not. We can all choose how to handle the obstacles we run into, both in our personal and business lives. These choices define our path. We talked to Fred Cary about 3 ways to power through challenges and achieve your entrepreneurial goals.
1. Change Your Mindset When Problems Occur
We all run into problems especially if we are entrepreneurs. What makes all the difference is how we deal with them. Someone with a negative mindset will look at a problem like it’s a mountain to climb. Someone with a positive mindset will focus on the bright side. After all, you are creating something that doesn’t exist and this cannot be done without obstacles.
Entrepreneurship, like life, is not a straight line that lands us exactly where we imagined it would. More times than not, we end up on dead-end roads. This is where we should get creative and not give up. If you are feeling alone, talking to someone with a positive mindset in your environment can be very helpful.
“A positive mindset means waking up every single day knowing that whatever comes your way – you’re going to embrace it.” – Fred Cary
2. Use Roadblocks as Opportunities
Welcome things when they happen and look at roadblocks as an opportunity to pivot and make necessary changes early in the process. A lot of times the biggest roadblocks are not unique to your organization. Take this pandemic, for example, it has changed the world around us considerably and made many good ideas look bad under the new circumstances. It’s important not to take it personally and focus on how you can take advantage of the world that has stopped.
At IdeaPros, we took the time to rethink and come up with a better plan, so we don’t end up with a product or app no one wants.
“When there is something that seems insurmountable that’s the time to sit back, look at the game plan again, and figure out another way to move forward.” – Fred Cary
3. Treat Failure As The Ultimate F-word
When bad things happen and they will – don’t think of failure as an option. Don’t jump off the cliff because something went wrong. Sit back and figure out a new way to do it. Focus on the solution and not the problem. Forward-thinking and putting yourself out there is what creates a problem-solving mentality.
“Don’t come to me with a problem. Come to me with a solution.” – Fred Cary
Complaining doesn’t solve anything, but thinking out of the box does. The past is not something to dwell on, but something to learn from. The future is something you are striving for, but you can’t live in the future. The only place you can live in and take action is the present. Change your mindset and make the right decisions now, so the vision you have for the future becomes your reality today.
